Blazing ball of fire.
No matter how beautiful a picture of a sunset it, I guarantee, it does zero justice to the real thing. For me, I think it might be a sunset that most fails in photography. Granted they make good pics, but the rest is missing. The moment of it. The awe. The feeling of being there. We become accustomed to them, and really only notice the great ones, but when we do, they really capture in a way that digital representation just can't.
Same goes for the sun itself. I couldn't look at it when I took this picture. You can't tell by looking, but it was HUGE. I mean just fucking big. It didn't look far away. It looked like it was sitting on the planet. Ready to consume the buildings, and cars, and people. You just don't get that from a pic. I still like it though.
Mass Transit Blues
I ride public transit every single day. The buses. The trains.
Packed into aluminum, and steel, and electricity. I rarely see the same faces. I rarely see happy faces. I rarely see upturned faces.
We ride, packed shoulder to shoulder, more trapped in our isolation.
What it is
I posted about this on my FB, but kinda want to make it real. Who knows, this may go the way of all my little brainstorms, and it's starting off slow, and will probably continue in like fashion.
Essentially, it goes a little something like this. I've always enjoyed photography. It's always been an almost hobby. My entire life, I've played with cameras, but I've never really learned them. I took a couple classes. In high school, I learned how to develop film. That was a very long time ago, and I've completely forgotten everything I once knew.
I was going to pursue it more when I got to college, but as I became further immersed in my major, I came to understand that my passion was elsewhere, and so there went all my time.
I've owned various cameras my entire life, but always used them casually at best. I've had standard 35 mm. Polaroid, and of course digital.
Now, the thing is, the phone I carry around with me in my pocket, has one of the best cameras I've ever owned. Seriously, it's kind of a beast. The camera you carry around on your phone is probably also a beast.
And that's it really.
This blog is specific to photos and editing I do on my phone. I do have another camera, that is...you know...just a camera, but that's not what this is about.
I wanted this place, because I can get a little more in to it here than on FB. I may (or may not) post little blogs, essays, poems, words of some arrangement or other with the pics I post here...but that's it. Pics taken and edited on my phone alone. Maybe with words.
I also wanted to do it here, and not just FB because there is a chance that some photos may be NSFW. I'm not saying they will be, I'm not saying they won't. I'm simply saying that I want a place that I can post pics where I don't have to worry about it being flagged as inappropriate by the gods of FB.
Check it out if you want. Skip it if you don't. Comment if you'd like. Feel free to share ideas, critique, insult, or enjoy. I always welcome feedback in all of its forms.
Just remember, I don't make claims to be a pro. I make no claim to be an artist. I'm just a guy with a camera in his pocket, who really enjoys taking a few pics now and then.
Hope you enjoy it too.
